What is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica? The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an national honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and Portuguese studies. Any secondary school student (excluding freshmen) who has taken or is currently enrolled in Honors Spanish III or higher, and maintained an honor average in the study of Spanish (3.75). Students who enroll in qualifying Spanish classes in the spring semester will be eligible for induction should they meet all other requirements. We have bi-monthly meetings where we plan activities for the year in regards to service and initiation of new members. Our society will be open to new members again in January of the current school year. Once a student is inducted, they may remain as associate members throughout their high school career, should they continue to meet requirements Osborne High School: Simón Bolívar Chapter Members will be invited in September of each school year. Qualifications for Membership Section 1: To be eligible for induction into the Society, students must meet all the following criteria:
Student must be actively enrolled in a Spanish class for the school year.
Student must be enrolled in H Spanish III of Spanish or higher.
Student must have an 3.75 in all Spanish classes.
Student must have a 3.0 – average overall GPA.
Consideration must be given to integrity, honor, responsibility, interest, character, leadership, seriousness of purpose and commitment to others.
Section 2: To remain eligible for continued membership into the Society, students must meet all the following criteria:
Student must attend 75% of the monthly meetings scheduled. These will generally be scheduled at a local restaurant or café.
Student must attend 3 cultural events in the community throughout the year.
Student must remain in good standing academically, meeting the minimum requirements.
